The requirements for the RORC Caribbean 600 are less strict than for example, for the Rolex Fastnet Race, but still, it is a 600 Nm offshore race, and although we are never far from one of the islands, we can encounter bad weather, which can make it a very rough race. Some editions had light conditions compared to the extreme weather in 2018.

Preferably you have offshore experience

An adequate number of the experienced crew must have experience sailing a boat offshore and be prepared and physically fit to encounter heavy weather. Competitors may be required to provide evidence of their offshore experience.

Safety and Life-Saving Equipment

Combined Lifejackets and Harnesses shall be worn when on deck.

  • Between the hours of sunset and sunrise
  • When alone on deck
  • When reefed
  • When the true wind speed is 25 knots or above
  • When the visibility is less than one nautical mile

Offshore Personal Survival Training

We recommend that you have completed training to Section 6 of the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations and gained a certificate from a World Sailing approved Offshore Personal Survival Training Course. Training must preferably have taken place within 5 years of the start of the race. We do recommend that 100% of the crew has completed this training for your own and others safety at sea.

First Aid Training

We recommend that you have completed a First Aid Training Course and hold an in-date certificate. The course shall comply with OSR 6.05.2 and have been completed within five years of the start of the race. The qualifications of Doctors, Paramedics or similarly trained medical professionals will be accepted, provided they are familiar with the topics in OSR Appendix H.

The Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda enjoy cooling trade winds which ensure the weather is perfect for the world-famous sailing regattas like the RORC Caribbean 600, Antigua Sailing Week and Antigua Classic Yacht Charter Week.

Antigua is one of the top Caribbean holiday and vacation destinations with 365 white sand beaches, and a huge choice of things to do, places to stay and services.

Antigua’s best website is Antiguanice which has the most up-to-date information on what is going on on-island, from flight arrivals to all the latest events.

We recommend planning your accommodation for the race close to Falmouth or English harbour so you can walk to the boat or if you plan to stay a bit further out we recommend to rent a car.
