After leaving Malta and the Mediterranean Sea we sail into the Tyrrhenian Sea. We will head up the coast of Sicily past mount Etna and through the straights of Messina if the winds allow us. In that case, we will be seeing the Stromboli volcano. Otherwise, we will sail down the south coast of Sicily.
The Tyrrhenian Sea is part of the Mediterranean Sea off the western coast of Italy. It is named for the Tyrrhenian people, identified since the 6th century BCE with the Etruscans of Italy.
