Picton to Auckland, New Zealand / 590 Nm / 9 Days / CAT 2 Ocean Passage
The 590 Nm passage from Picton to Auckland, New Zealand takes in a wide variety of coastlines, seascapes and weather conditions. Starting at the largest port in the Marlborough Sounds, we’ll sail out into the infamous Cook Strait, head east for Cape Palliser, NE to East Cape and then NW to Cape Colville before heading SW into Auckland Harbour – New Zealand’s City of Sails.
The weather on the NorthIslands East Coast is changeable and we are set to experience a variety of conditions and sea states. There are a number of safe ports and harbours on the passage, and we’ll make a couple of social stops en-route including waiting for weather windows with any adverse weather. This passage is a great opportunity to build sea miles, confidence and experience prior to your first Category 1 offshore passage or an opportunity to sail a unique part of New Zealand’s coastline.
