Volvo 65 Sisi –

VOR 65 Ocean Race Yacht

The VOR 65 is a one-design ocean race yacht that was specifically designed and built for the 2014-2015 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. The new VOR 65 yachts are slightly shorter than the previous generation of Volvo Open 70’s but will be more affordable while still being a very high-performance racing boat.

The Ocean Race

The Ocean Race, formerly known as the Volvo Ocean Race, is often described as the longest and toughest professional sporting event in the world, sailing’s toughest team challenge and one of the sport’s Big Three events, alongside the Olympic Games and America’s Cup.

VOR 65 records

In the 2017-2018 edition of the race, the VOR 65 produced record-breaking speeds, with team AkzoNobel setting a new 24-hour distance record.

The racing was also the closest in the 45-year history of the event with three teams approaching the finish line of the final leg with an opportunity to win the overall title. The winning margin for Dongfeng Race Team was just 16-minutes after 126 days of racing.

Europe Race summer 2021 and the next race in 2020

The Ocean Race have confirmed the next edition of the race will start from Alicante, Spain, in October 2022 and finish in Genova, Italy, in the summer of 2023 during the 50th jubilee anniversary year of the Race. The 2022 event will mark the third lap of the planet for the robust VOR 65 fleet. A Europe Race is being considered for summer 2021.
